About Us

MARE explores how multilingual and literacy skills can be used as a resource in the labor market. This research project at the University of Hamburg is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space and runs from 2021 to 2026.

The goal is to understand how language skills in various languages – such as German, Russian, Turkish, English, and French – can facilitate access to the labor market and what role they play in individuals‘ educational biographies. We use large datasets and assessments to better understand the importance of these skills for professional success.
